Nala

Nala is the definition of resilience and sweetness, a golden retriever anyone would be incredibly lucky to meet. At 12 years old, she came to us from a tough past where her most basic needs went unmet. Arriving malnourished, unspayed, and anemic, Nala’s body bore signs of neglect—from flea-bitten skin and hair loss throughout her bottom half to painful ear infections and benign tumors in both ears to worn-down teeth and significant dental issues. But even with all her past challenges, Nala’s heart is full of gentleness and adoration for every person she meets. She loves to gaze with trusting eyes.

As Nala settles into her new life, her foster family has discovered one of her sweetest quirks: she loves to snuggle on big dog beds, clutching a favorite stuffed toy gently in her mouth for long periods of time. Her vet believes this tender habit might come from her past, a comforting ritual she used to help her feel safe and hold on to things she treasures. Watching her find peace in these small moments has been a reminder of her resilience and a joy for her new family to witness as she blossoms in her loving home.

With the chance to rest and heal, Nala’s spirit has blossomed. She’s even starting to feel comfortable around other dogs, sharing her space peacefully with Gullu, her now Old Dog Haven foster sibling. Thanks to Old Dog Haven’s unwavering care, Nala is steadily improving. Her last vet visit cleared her of a previously detected heart murmur. She’s gaining weight, her coat is growing back, her skin is clearing up, and her ears are on the mend. Her anemia is getting better, and with every day, she’s one step closer to a full recovery.

As we watch her regain her health, we’re grateful for the donations that made her care possible. Her flea treatments, skin medications, and vital veterinary support have all come through the kindness of Old Dog Haven donors. We look forward to the day Nala is fully healed and living her best life, for the rest of her life.
