Opal
Loves to cuddle - a real sweetie
Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
Opal’s journey began when someone saw her being dumped out of a car on the side of the road. When she arrived at the shelter, it was clear this sweet gal had numerous medical issues that needed immediate attention. She was suffering from a chronic ear infection, dental problems, heart disease, a case of mild bronchitis and uncontrolled glaucoma in both eyes that left her completely blind. Shelter staff reached out to Old Dog Haven and we found her a wonderful permanent foster home and soon provided her with the urgent medical care she needed.
Thanks to donations from our supporters, Old Dog Haven paid for Opal to receive medications for her bronchitis, undergo a dental procedure (where they extracted all but six teeth), an electrocardiogram of her heart and undergo the necessary surgery to remove both of her eyes to alleviate her pain.
Opal’s foster mom shares why they are so in love with the new addition to their family.
“Opal is the sweetest little girl. She’s blind and partially deaf, but she quickly mapped out the house and learned how to find her way around the yard and back to the deck. She LOVES to cuddle and her favorite thing to do is to sit on our chests and snooze cheek-to-cheek. She likes to give us gentle kisses and enjoys snuggling up to Slim, our other Old Dog Haven foster dog. She’s very brave and doesn’t let her blindness stop her from exploring. She can put away a lot of food for a dog her size and if Slim isn’t quick, she’ll wolf down his bowl of food too. She communicates with little whines when she needs something, so we just run down the checklist until she’s satisfied. We are already wrapped around those tiny paws.”
We are so happy that Opal will always know unconditional kindness, love and comfort with her forever family.
