Ophelia, a beautiful black lab, was an owner surrender to Old Dog Haven when her beloved human passed away. Ophelia arrived overweight and needing a dental. She had a cracked molar and some benign growths removed. Ophelia limped a lot; she had pain in her elbows. She’s slimmed down and takes 3 different medications to help with her pain as well as joint, thyroid, and liver supplements.

This girl has the typical lab temperament: joyful, playful, sometimes goofy, with a “happy tail” that never stops wagging. Ophelia’s foster tells us that Ophelia is a devoted and very loyal dog.

Ophelia is moving so much better than when she came into care. She LOVES her walks and spending time on the couch with her family in the evening for T.V. time. She has done fantastic with her pack of “littles”-other Old Dog Haven dogs, even being protective of them when strangers come along.

A recent diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma took her foster family by surprise. Time with this wonderful girl will be cut short because of it, but her family takes comfort knowing Ophelia is unaware of her cancer. She takes each day on happily, doing her best to show her love to her family. We can learn so much from these old dogs.
