Piper was brought to a busy local shelter after having been found in a duffel bag left in a parking lot. She is thought to be about 12 years old and she had a terrible skin condition and no fur on her torso and bald spots on her legs. She was also found to have an ear infection and dental disease.

She is feeling more comfortable now in her Old Dog Haven final refuge home where her ear infection has resolved and she will be spayed and have a dental soon. While waiting for her dermatology consult, her foster mom started her on a food elimination diet to try to ease her itchy discomfort. She does seem less itchy but still has to wear pajamas to protect her skin from her occasional scratching.

Her foster mom says, “Piper has the biggest personality for such a tiny dog. You’ve heard of land sharks? We call Piper our little land shrimp because she’s so small. She is very affectionate and loves to give kisses. She is also completely fearless and fell right in with our pack of big and small dogs. She’s a funny little thing, often appalled to find her little feet touching the floor and she will speak to me using her bossy voice until I pick her up.

“She’s very persuasive! But sometimes she is content to make her way to her favorite dog bed and curl up in it. She has also been sharing more space lately with another Final Refuge dog, Minnie. And at night the two of them and the other two littles sleep in bed with us. We are so happy to have Piper as part of our family.”
