Sadie is an 8-year-old, 57-pound mixed breed dog left at the curb “free to good home” after her owner passed away. Thankfully, a rescue stepped up for her. Sadie went to a foster home and began receiving the care she needed. She had an emergency medical situation as she developed pyometra before she could get to her spay appointment. This required a life-saving surgery and a tough recovery. But all is well now, and Sadie is looking for her forever home!

Sadie is deaf, likely due to repeated, untreated ear infections and multiple ruptured eardrums as confirmed by her veterinarian. Since receiving proper veterinary care and allergy management, she is feeling—and looking–so much better! Despite her rough past, Sadie is incredibly resilient.

Sadie did not initially know any hand signals, but she has already begun learning and responding to several, including ‘sit’, ‘shake’, “P” for potty, “W” for water, and the ASL sign for ‘eat’ at meals. With consistency, patience, and positive guidance, she is absolutely capable of learning even more. She’s super smart!

Sadie is extremely sweet and affectionate. She bonds deeply with her people and is sensitive, emotionally intuitive, and loyal. She may whine, cry, or occasionally bark—especially when her bonded person leaves. She can be vocal when anxious, bored, or seeking reassurance. Given all she has been through, it’s completely understandable that she needs time to feel safe and secure. This anxiety has drastically improved while in her foster home. She can now relax on the couch when someone steps out—something that wasn’t possible early on.

With time, Sadie will only continue to blossom. She is currently on medication to help her through this transition and emotional healing. Sadie is fully potty trained, prefers someone to go outside with her, and has had few accidents.

Sadie is dog-friendly but lacks social skills. She does best with confident dogs 40 pounds or larger and is not suitable for homes with small dogs or cats. Her play style is energetic and intense—hopping, whining, face licking, and bouncing. Sadie truly lights up when dogs lie near her and would thrive with a patient, confident canine companion who can help her continue to learn appropriate social cues.

Sadie has great house manners until she becomes excited. When overstimulated, she can quickly go from playful to overwhelmed and may grab shoes, clothing sleeves, remotes, or items in your hand. Redirection works best for her using hand signals (such as “sit”), toys, calm structure, and occasional quiet time to decompress. She has never been crated and would likely panic if kenneled. Sadie has scaled a 6-foot wood fence during a panic episode when she thought her people had left—an impressive feat for an older girl. She was not trying to escape; she was searching for them. She will require secure supervision outdoors.

Sadie’s ideal home would be one that is calm with humans who are home often. In addition, a home with a confident and playful dog companion would be wonderful for Sadie. Someone experienced with deaf dogs or willing to learn the structure, reassurance, and continued training to help Sadie live her best life is most desirable.

Sadie is deeply loving, loyal, and emotionally connected, and her rescuers would love to find her a new home with a family who will give her all that she deserves.
