What a cutie Stan is! This 12-year-old pug/terrier mix weighs 30 pounds. Stan is described as being “curious, intuitive, playful and loving”. This fellow sounds like a dog who could fit into almost any type of family situation. He just longs to be a part of whatever is going on with his people.

Stan has lived with other dogs and has done well with them. Currently, Stan lives with 2 cats. He is often around other dogs and cats in the complex he lives in. Stan is a friendly guy who likes to meet everyone. The only time Stan has an issue with other animals is when he is eating. That is VERY common and understandable behavior. Stan has done great with kids aged 8 and over who are gentle and kind. If you are looking to find a mature, engaging senior dog to add to your family, Stan is ready to join you!

During the day, Stan would prefer not to be left alone for long hours. He prefers company. Perhaps the companionship of another mature, friendly dog could help Stan when the humans have to leave. Being well socialized is so important for dogs and thankfully Stan is. When the weather is safe to do so, he loves going along with his people for car rides. Stan doesn’t care what the destination is; he is ready to be your ride-along buddy!

Stan loves to go for walks and will run too! Of course, he should be kept on leash for his safety unless he is in a securely fenced area. We are told he will pull on leash. Perhaps a harness that limits the ability to pull could help with this. Not only is daily exercise good for a dog and its human, but daily walks can also build bonds between a dog and his person.

At this time, Stan can manage between 4-5 hours between potty breaks during the day. Stan is showing signs of arthritis, slowing down when taking stairs, which is something he has to do where he lives. It would be nice if Stan could receive a daily supplement or even medication (if a vet prescribes it for him) to help him stay comfortable. Stan has not been to a vet in 3 years; his owner is unsure if he is up to date on vaccines. This means Stan’s adopter should be able to afford a vet visit upon adoption for a senior checkup. A lifelong commitment to Stan’s veterinary care as well as good quality dog food, is so important. It is incredibly rewarding to watch a dog thrive when they are provided with what they need to do so.

Stan will bark when he hears someone coming to his home. That’s a good alert dog! He will also bark when he’s excited to meet new people. Stan loves to sleep with his person; he would love to find a home where he can continue doing that. Stan snores-that’s the pug in him! We are told that Stan would enjoy a person (or people) who will play with him. What a FUN dog!

Stan will need time to acclimate to his new home. Most dogs do, and we have found that giving a little time for a dog to adapt and showing compassion to them will allow them to settle in and feel secure.

Stan is located in Spokane Valley, WA. For contact information please email: referrals@olddoghaven.org
