Stanley (cocker spaniel)
Stan the Man
Stanley is a 13-year-old black cocker spaniel who was turned into a shelter by his owner to be euthanized. Shelter staff contacted Old Dog Haven because they thought Stanley had more life left in him and they wanted to give him a chance to live out the last chapter of his life in a loving, permanent home.
Stanley’s foster mom affectionately calls him “Stan the Man” and says he is a bundle of energy from sunup to sundown! He is very friendly, loves walks, tennis balls and the company of his best dog pal, Old Dog Haven foster, Titan. Stanley is deaf and uses hand signals to communicate with his family and really enjoys spending time with the grandkids.
During Stanley’s vet exam, they found arthritis in his hip, and he is currently on medication to alleviate pain and help with his mobility. Unfortunately, Stanley was also diagnosed with a tumor on his lung which is likely cancerous. Luckily, Stanley won’t let that news stop him from living his best life. He is living in the moment and is still very active, happy and enjoys every day to its fullest. Nothing slows this good boy down!
His foster mom says he gets lots of love and they feel very lucky to have Stanley as part of their family.
Update: Stanley was a wonderful pup. He had visual limitation and was completely deaf but he was a heat-seeking missile of tennis balls. The tumor in his lung continued to grow but Stanley’s wiggley tail never stopped. Today though our dear boy had a seizure which told us metastasis of the brain was now evident. We cherish and love our little Stan the Man. Our heart misses you so much.
