Stevie

Stevie is an ADORABLE pug mix. She is 12 years old and weighs 13 pounds. One could easily be caught up in how CUTE she is, but her adopter should be able to afford her lifelong care.

Stevie is another example of a dog who is not happy with the addition of a baby to her family. Because of this, Stevie is being kept away from the now-crawling child. This is understandably stressing Stevie out. Her family recognizes that this is not fair to Stevie. Stevie would be much happier in a child-free home or one with older kids whose actions are not unpredictable.

Stevie lives with another dog that she ignores. If you have a dog at home already and would like to consider adopting Stevie, it could work. As long as your dog is not a young puppy or a dog who will pester her, Stevie is fine. Steve has been around cats, and while she has been curious about them, she has left the cats alone. Stevie is more interested in her people than other animals. She is a loving girl who enjoys spending time with her person.

When Stevie is out on a walk, she will pull a little on the leash out of excitement. As most dogs do, she loves to stop and smell everything, leaving her mark for other dogs to find. When she is happy, Stevie runs in circles playfully. Stevie loves to play with her stuffed animals. She sounds like a fun little companion dog.

Because she is accustomed to having people around, Stevie would like to continue that. If you work from home or you have a job where she can tag along-PERFECT! If you are an active retiree- PERFECT! Stevie loves to tag along with her person. The change from a dog who was always around her person to one who needs to be kept separated from the baby has caused her to experience some anxiety. Her person has been giving her trazodone to relax her. Never destructive when alone, she will have “accidents” sometimes due to her stress. Once she settles into her new home without a young child to worry about and more time with her people, this could all change!

Stevie has a collapsing trachea. For this, she takes hydrocodone to help relieve the cough that can come with the condition. It will be very important that Stevie’s new family keep up with her veterinary care, including any medication and treatments she may need for the rest of her life. We are told she has arthritis, but she is not currently receiving anything for that. Her owner states that Stevie does not “act” like a senior. It would be great if she could receive all of the care she needs as time goes on so that she can continue to feel good as she ages.

This girl is one who barks at appropriate times- when someone is outside her home or when someone comes to the door. She can be anxious at the vet with handling (which many are!), but does great with grooming.

Stevie sounds like a good girl. She is ready to move into a home where she will once again be free to be in any room she chooses!
